Laylat al-Qadr, the heart of the month of Ramadan, is the night when our holy book, the Quran, began to be revealed to the earth. In Surah Al-Qadr, it is clearly stated that this night is "better than a thousand months." This equates to the reward of worship for a lifetime of about 83 years.
Virtues of This Night
- The angels and Jibril descend to the earth on this night, bringing mercy and peace to believers.
- There is peace and tranquility on earth until the break of dawn.
- Sincere prayers, repentance, and seeking forgiveness on this night are not rejected.
What Should Be Done on Laylat al-Qadr?
The Prophet (PBUH) used to spend this night in worship, praying, and reciting the Quran. When Aisha (RA) asked, "O Messenger of Allah, if I realize which night is Laylat al-Qadr, what should I say?" The Prophet advised this prayer:
"Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun, tuhibbul-'afwa, fa'fu 'anni" (O Allah, You are forgiving and love forgiveness, so forgive me).
Additionally, performing missed prayers, bringing joy to the poor, and making peace among those who are estranged increases the blessings of this holy night.
