Dhikr literally means "to remember, to keep in mind". In Islamic terminology, it is one of the most valuable acts of worship performed to remember Allah (SWT), ponder upon His greatness, give thanks for His blessings, and maintain continuous devotion in heart and tongue.
Importance of Dhikr in the Quran and Hadith
In Surah Al-Baqarah verse 152: "Therefore remember Me, I will remember you..."
In Surah Ar-Ra'd verse 28: "Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest."
The Prophet (PBUH) said: "The example of the one who remembers his Lord in comparison to the one who does not is like that of the living and the dead." (Bukhari).
